Member-owners of Alaska’s electrical cooperatives have the opportunity to choose their energy futures by voting. This page will feature news of the Spring 2025 utility board elections for the Railbelt co-ops. Stay tuned for candidate questionnaires, election results, and other news.

2025 Railbelt elections at a glance
MEA Elections
Members will elect two directors, one representing the Matanuska District and one At-Large
Candidates for the Matanuska District are Thomas Bergey and incumbent Mark Masteller.
Incumbent Arthur Keyes is now the sole candidate for the At-large seat. Two other candidates have withdrawn, Because they did so after election materials were prepared, their names will still appear on the ballot.
Members can vote in three ways—by mail, on-line, or at the MEA Annual meeting. Ballots and election booklets will be mailed on April 3—online and mail voting will open that day and close at 5 p.m. on April 28. The MEA Annual meeting will be on April 29.

HEA Elections
Members will elect one director in each of HEA’s 3 districts.
District 1 candidates are incumbent Wayne Ogle and Patrick Parker.
District 2 candidates are incumbent Dan Furlong and Mitchell Michaud.
District 3 candidates are Matthew Bullard, Rick Eckert, and incumbent Erin McKittrick.
Members can vote on-line, by mail, or in person at the HEA Annual Meeting. On-line and mail voting will open on March 28 and close at 5 p.m. on April 30. HEA’s Annual Meeting is on May 1. More information can be found on the HEA 2025 Election page.
2025 Railbelt elections at a glance
CEA Elections
CEA members will elect one director in 2025.
There are three candidates: Katherine Jernstrom, Bernie Smith, and Aaric St Michel—a fourth candidate advanced by the Nominating Committee withdrew.
Voting will start in late April and run through the CEA Annual Meeting on May 30. More election information can be found on the CEA 2025 Election page.
GVEA Elections
Elections were scheduled for Districts 5 and 6.
There was only one candidate, Bradley Swope, in District 5. At its March meeting, the GVEA Board exercised its power to cancel one-candidate elections and named Swope to the District 5 seat, effective June 24.
In District 6, incumbent Fred Sheen will face John Sloan,
Voting will begin after GVEA’s Annual meeting , which will take place on May 1.
