Member-owners of Alaska’s electrical cooperatives have the opportunity to choose their energy futures by voting. This page will feature news of the Spring 2024 utility board elections for the Railbelt co-ops. Stay tuned for candidate questionnaires, election results, and other news.

2024 Railbelt elections at a glance

  • MEA Elections

    • Members in the Susitna West District reelected Bill Kendig to a four-year term

    • Members in the Susitna East District reelected Maxwell Sumner to a four-year term

    • MEA members will elect a director for the Matanuska District and one At-Large seat in 2025.

  • HEA Elections

    • Members in District 1 in District 1 reelected Mike Chenault to a second three-year term

    • Members in District 2 reelected Robert Wall to a second three-year term

    • Members in District 3 reelected Louis Flora to a second three-year term

    • Members will elect one director in each of HEA’s three districts in 2025

  • CEA Elections

    • CEA members reelected Mark Wiggin and elected Dan Rogers to four-year terms.

    • Both sets of proposed bylaw changes were approved by members.

    • CEA members will elect one director in 2025.

  • GVEA Elections

    • GVEA members in Districts 4 and 7 will elect directors; all members will vote on proposed bylaw changes.

    • 2 ways to vote:

      • By mail—all members will be sent ballots in early May, voting opens on May 3, ballots must be received by 5 p.m. on June 4.

      • Online—members will receive postcards with online voting instructions in early May; online voting closes at 5 p.m. on June 4. For help with electronic voting you can contact the election helpline at 855-761-9111 or email goldenvalley@alaska-cpas.com.

    • GVEA’s Annual Meeting will by on April 25 (member appreciation event at 4:30 p.m., meeting starts at 6:30 p.m.). Candidates will have an opportunity to meet members and answer questions during the appreciation event). GVEA does not have voting at its Annual Meeting.
