HEA 2024 Election Results
The results of Homer Electric Association’s (HEA) 2024 board election were announced at the cooperative’s Annual Meeting on May 2. Incumbent directors were reelected in all three districts, with Mike Chenault winning in District 1, Robert K. Wall in District 2, and Louis “Louie” Flora in District 3.
A total of 4242 votes were received for a turnout of 16.5 percent, up slightly from 2023 (15.5 percent). Of these, 2404 were cast by mail (56.7 percent), 1814 electronically (42.8 percent), and 24 (under 1 percent) at the HEA Annual Meeting. The percentage of ballots submitted by mail was up about 5 percent from 2023. There were also 103 write-in votes—the breakdown of write-in votes by district was not included the election announcements, and HEA has not responded to requests for this information.
In District 1 incumbent Director Mike Chenault ran unopposed. Chenault received 791 votes. This will be the second term for Chenault, who from 2009 to 2016 served as Speaker of the Alaska House.
In District 2 Robert Wall won reelection. Wall received 975 votes (68.9 percent) to 427 (30.1 percent) votes for his challenger, Crystal Schwartz Mckenney. Wall is a drilling rig supervisor who has worked in Cook Inlet and the North Slope. This will be his second term.
In District 3 Louie Flora won reelection, receiving 1138 votes (58.3 percent) to challenger Michael Jones’ 808 votes (41.4 percent). Flora is a commercial fisherman who has also worked as a staff member in the Alaska Legislature. This is Flora’s second term.
The seats held by Directors Wayne Ogle, Dan Furlong, and Erin McKittrick will be up for election in 2025.
